Dr. Ronald Chan is the Chairman and Executive Director of Modern Dental Group Limited.

He is primarily responsible for the Group’s strategic planning, operations, sales, and marketing across Southeast Asia. He also serves as the CEO of the Group’s clear aligner business.

He graduated from the University of Manchester with an MSc in Restorative Aesthetic Dentistry, Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University with an MBA with Distinction, the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, and the University of Calgary with a BSc in Biological Science with Distinction.

His passion for the dental industry has driven him to become not only an actively practising dentist in Hong Kong but also a part-time clinical lecturer at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital and the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Pokpong Amornvit is a Thailand-registered dentist, researcher, and educator specialising in digital dentistry. He earned his DDS and MS in Maxillofacial Prosthetics from Mahidol University, completed a Certificate in Implant Dentistry at UCLA, and later obtained his PhD in Oral Health Science from Prince of Songkla University.

His special interests include digital implant dentistry, clear aligner therapy, restorative aesthetics, facial-driven treatment planning, and digital smile design. He is passionate about integrating digital technologies to improve treatment accuracy, efficiency, and patient experience.

Dr. Pokpong is the creator of PPFaceDesign, a facial-driven digital workflow philosophy, and PPFacebow, a digital facebow system for comprehensive treatment planning. As the founder of Connext in Bangkok, he trains dental professionals from across Asia and internationally through lectures, workshops, and hands-on programmes in digital dentistry.

• Designing Airways, Not Just Smiles : A Journey Through Pediatric Airway Focused Myofunctional and Aligner Therapy

Dr. Irene Lau is a Hong Kong-based pediatric dentist and clinical educator with more than two decades of international experience across Hong Kong, mainland China, and the United States.

Her clinical practice and teaching centre on the intersection of pediatric dentistry, dental sleep and airway health, myofunctional care, and special care dentistry.

Dr. Lau earned her dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 2003 and completed her specialty training in pediatric dentistry at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York.

She serves as Vice President of the Hong Kong Society of Paediatric Dentistry, Vice President of the Hong Kong Association of Dental Sleep Medicine, and a board member of the Pediatric Dentistry Association of Asia (PDAA).

Dr. Lau is the co-founder of Family Smile Limited and T.O.P. Dental by Family Smile Limited — airway-focused, multidisciplinary dental clinics in Hong Kong — and the founder of NCO Hello Smile Hong Kong Limited.

She is also the co-director and creator of Dome 4 Kidz, an international educational series for dentists on pediatric dental sleep medicine.

Abstract

Pediatric early interceptive orthodontics is undergoing a fundamental shift. What was once regarded as the cosmetic pre-alignment of erupting teeth is now recognised as a critical developmental window in which clinicians can shape the airway, guide craniofacial growth, and influence lifelong breathing, sleep, and orofacial function.

For practitioners incorporating myofunctional appliances and clear aligners into early treatment, this shift redefines every stage of care — from case selection and diagnostic emphasis to appliance sequencing, retention, and interdisciplinary communication. This lecture presents an airway-centered framework for Phase 0 and Phase 1 treatment, integrating clear aligner therapy with myofunctional appliances and myofunctional therapy.

The session opens with a concise diagnostic model for identifying pediatric patients whose craniofacial, functional, and sleep-related features warrant early airway-focused intervention. It then examines the mechanical and functional contributions of clear aligners to arch development, space management, and growth guidance in the mixed dentition.

The core of the lecture addresses the clinical question most relevant to attendees: when aligners should lead, when myofunctional appliances and therapy should lead, and when the two modalities must operate in parallel to achieve stable, airway-positive outcomes. A reproducible clinical workflow — screen, design, align, retain — is illustrated through case examples spanning the mixed dentition, including long-term follow-up demonstrating the impact of integrated treatment on tongue posture, nasal breathing, and dentofacial development.

Participants will leave with:

• A practical decision framework for identifying appropriate early-intervention candidates
• A clear understanding of how clear myofunctional appliances and aligner therapy complement one another within a growth-guidance model
• The clinical language required to communicate the rationale for airway-centered treatment to parents and interdisciplinary colleagues

Dr. A. van den Akker is a Netherlands-registered dentist with more than 40 years of clinical experience in general, prosthetic, and esthetic dentistry. He graduated from ACTA Amsterdam and began his career as a dental officer in the Royal Dutch Navy before establishing his private practice in Alphen aan den Rijn, where he continues to practise today.

His special interests include esthetic restorative dentistry, digital dentistry, dental sleep medicine, and minimally invasive restorative techniques. He is passionate about integrating digital workflows into everyday clinical practice while delivering functional and esthetic treatment outcomes.

Dr. van den Akker is an internationally recognised trainer and key opinion leader for multiple dental companies, including Dentsply Sirona, SureSmile, Ivoclar, VOCO, and FirstFit. In modern dentistry, AI plays more and more a very significant role. Nowadays CBCT, IO scans, facial scans and jaw movement come together in what we call the dental avatar. This, combined with cloud computing, creates a new era of “connected dentistry”. Anywhere in the world we can now access our data and cooperate with a complete team of specialists on our case with cloud platforms like SmileCloud, DS Core etc.

But… still we have to work with our “bare hands” on the patient. Treatment skills are still as important that way. Now there is one recent innovation, and we could already have expected this more or less: guided veneer treatment. With the help of AI we can now already simulate a complete treatment for our indirect restorations like porcelain veneers. This is a method where our manual skills are strengthened by special guided preparation blocs — in fact the preparation becomes “dentist independent”! Really minimal invasive and very predictable. In fact we were already using this phenomenon with guided implantology and endodontology.

In the lecture I explain to you the FIRST FIT workflow, show also the difference between this technique and the FIT injection technique; choices have to be made…

Workshop

In the workshop we will deep dive into for instance the placement protocol and perform a live demo on a model. You will get more acquainted with the technique itself. We will also have time for questions and answers about the whole system itself.

She is a Malaysia-registered dentist and a member of the Malaysian Dental Council, with professional experience across Malaysia, China, and Singapore. She has built a unique career spanning both the clinical and commercial aspects of dentistry, giving her a strong understanding of treatment planning, product development, clinician education, and market adoption.

Her special interests include clear aligner therapy and mandibular advancement devices (MADs) for the management of obstructive sleep apnea. She is passionate about translating clinical evidence into practical workflows that can be readily implemented in daily practice.

Dr. Kay is an experienced regional trainer who has conducted numerous clear aligner study clubs and hands-on education programmes across Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Her training focuses on providing clinicians with practical, evidence-based approaches to aligner treatment and digital dentistry.

Through guided practice on 3D printed models featuring different clinical scenarios, participants will develop confidence in selecting and performing IPR accurately, efficiently, and safely for predictable treatment outcomes.

Dr. Nateetorn Piukwjacharakul is a Thailand-registered prosthodontist and clinical educator based in Bangkok. He earned his dental degree from Srinakharinwirot University, completed his prosthodontic residency at Mahidol University, and is a Diplomate of the Thai Board of Prosthodontics.

His special interests include esthetic prosthodontics, smile design, ceramic veneers, implant-supported restorations, and comprehensive restorative rehabilitation. He is committed to achieving functional harmony alongside natural esthetic outcomes through interdisciplinary treatment planning.

Dr. Nateetorn has extensive experience in both academia and private practice. Abstract

Orthodontic treatment performed as part of esthetic rehabilitation should be planned beyond tooth alignment alone. By considering the anticipated restorative requirements from the beginning, tooth movement can be directed toward more favorable space distribution, tooth position, gingival architecture, and occlusal relationships.

This presentation introduces a prosthetically driven interdisciplinary approach through the Design, Align, and Restore workflow. Completed clinical cases involving limited orthodontic treatment and esthetic restorations will demonstrate how restorative objectives can inform decisions regarding space redistribution, incisor position, root orientation, gingival levels, and enamel preservation.

The presentation will also explore how these principles can be translated into clear aligner planning, including ongoing TrioClear® cases. Although the definitive restorative outcome may evolve during orthodontic treatment, establishing a clear restorative direction at the planning stage can help reduce unnecessary tooth movement and provide a more structured and adaptable pathway toward esthetic and functional outcomes.
